How to Wear a Demi Bra
What is a demi bra? The word demi is derived from the French word "demi" and means half. So, literally demi cup bras are also known as half cup bras that leave the upper portion of the breast exposed. The cups of these bras are used to cover and support the lower portion of the breast usually just above the nipple. They are also used to enhance a woman's cleavage.
Thus these bras are a perfect choice when wearing low cut necklines as they go unnoticed and provide a lift which gives a woman a more polished appearance. Most demi or half bras have similar features which include having wide-set shoulder straps so that the distribution of the breast weight is even.
These brassieres usually have an underwire for the purpose of further support and a better lift. They tend to have a thicker bra band, are usually boned and often serve the same purpose of a push up bra. Though unlike push up bras, half cup bras do not have additional thick padding or removable gel inserts.
These types of bras are often more stylish and sexy and come in a variety of different fabrics and colors with a multitude of detailing such as lace and scalloped edging. They can be both practical as well as daring. Celebrities, dancers and performers often wear demi bras in public as it provides a better looking silhouette and gives the wearer an enhanced bustline.
With this bra style there a few minor downfalls. For instance, they offer comparatively less support when compared to full bras. Also, if, the bra does not fit properly the breasts can appear cut off or too bulgy.
Also, these brassieres are not ideal for daily wear except for women with a smaller bra size. It is not advisable to wear a demi bra under t-shirts or sheer or thin materials unless it is a perfect fit. Otherwise one runs the risk of the breasts spilling out of the bra.
With this bra style it is important that the bra fits snugly but comfortably. The brassiere should not pucker up in the front nor should it be wrinked or gap in any way. And, the back bra strap should fit smoothly on the body without riding up.
It is important to buy a brassiere with the right cup size as women often tend to buy a smaller cup size while buying demi bras. Check your bra size before purchasing these types of bras. And, opt for fabrics with a touch of lycra or spandex that will provide some stretch to the bra cup. This will ensure that you get a better fit that is nice looking and comfortable.
Experiment with different half cup bra styles and do not be afraid to try ones you would usually never consider. Also, take your time while buying any brassiere. And mostly enjoy your bra once you purchase it. The demi bra is wonderfully feminine, and as with all beautiful lingerie and intimate apparel, one of benefits of being a woman.
